This week 9.28.2026 Monday Jazz @ Brother Don’s showcases featured guest vocalist Dennis Hastings. Dennis has been working in the Puget Sound region for the last 30 years, starting his career as a rhythm and blues musician with his first band, the Harmonic Tremors.
Moving finally into jazz performance, he began the long process of tirelessly gigging in Seattle, Tacoma, and Olympi,a which eventually led to the honor of playing on the same bill with such luminaries as Bobby McFerrin, Cleo Laine, John Lee Hooker, Howard Roberts, Jan Stentz, Greta Matassa, Gail Pettis, and many others.
Dennis brings to the stage one of those rare voices that is both gritty and lyrical, demonstrating a wide range of sounds and expression. He has tapped in to the great tradition of male jazz singers, but is delightfully original with his quirky new interpretations of jazz standards. Including the compositions of David Frishberg, Ivan Lins, Duke Ellington, Eddie Jefferson, Mose Allison, Mel Torme’, Jimmy Webb and others.
Expect the unexpected, delivered in a humorous fashion as only Dennis can do. You’ll leave the cares of the day behind as he smoothly transports you to another world, one filled with both inspiration and delight.
Also in the band David Joyner on keys, Osama Afifi on bass, and Steve Bentley on drums. Come enjoy great food, your favorite beverage, a kid friendly comfortable atmosphere, and World Class Jazz … Hope to see you!
